What might this be? Our Fine Silver collection of What might this be?

Our Fine Silver collection often contains items one wouldn’t see in day-to-day life – this being one of them.

It is, in fact, called a ‘potato ring’ or ‘dish ring’, and is used to support a hot dish to protect the table surface from heat.

This Irish example by West & Son, Dublin 1906, has the typical waisted form, with bird and foliage detail amongst the openwork decoration and will be lot 9 in our October Auction.

Included in our October Fine Art Auction is this h Included in our October Fine Art Auction is this harbour scene by Bryan Pearce (British, 1929-2007).

Pearce’s work often depicts his birth place, St Ives, Cornwall, and is characterised by flattened perspectives, simple shapes and bold colours. He suffered from a rare neurological condition called phenylketonuria. Despite the challenges this posed, he discovered and pursued his passion for art.

This piece, composed of pen, pencil and Conte crayon, captures the essence of the Cornish coast in his unique, playful style.

The auction will be held on Wednesday 15th October.
